Weekend Wrap Up

My weekend had its ups and downs.  Saturday was really fun.  I met my friends Debbie and Susan at Quilts by Phyllis and we hung out there for a while.  Our hubbies hung out in the parking lot waiting for us.  Then we went to visit a local thread shop called the Village Sampler.  I needed thread for my anniversary present. The ladies there were very helpful and nice.  I got some of the thread I needed and they ordered the rest for me.  We then went to a local pub and got a bite to eat.  I was pretty tired by the time we got back home so I took about a 3 hour nap.  I continued to doze most of the evening.  By bed time I had the chills so I took my temperature and sure enough I had a small fever and some nausea to boot.

Sunday my temperature returned to normal but the nausea continued and I could not hold my eyes open.  Very long story short ... I spent the whole day in the ER being poked and prodded to find out nothing.  My official diagnosis .... too much Percocet.  I stopped the Percocet and lo and behold ... I feel better.  I tried to get Lortab today because I'm still pretty sore, but the doctor's office didn't call me back.  Aleeve just ain't cutting it.  Hopefully tomorrow they will hook me up.  This is my second bad experience with strong opiates.  As I have said many times today, I have no future as a drug addict.

Since it was so late last night when I finally got home from the ER and because they literally wore me out running tests, my hubby and I decided one more day at home was probably in order.  So I stayed home today and slept in.  Then got up and did some sewing.  My Civil War Sampler BOW is officially caught up! Yay!

Block 19 -- Ohio Star
Block 20 -- Lincoln's Platform

Next I started on a new BOM I received not long before surgery from the Temecula Quilt Company.  The pattern we are using is Road to Freedom.  It's being done in solids instead of prints.  So far I'm really enjoying it.  5" blocks though ... What was I thinking?? As the blocks get more complicated, the pieces are going to get teeny tiny!

Here are the first 5 blocks:

Block 1
Block 2
Block 3

Block 4

Block 5

Not bad for a day's work. Back to reality tomorrow however.

Surgical Vaction Update

I had ambitious plans for sewing while I've been off on my surgical vacation but I've not felt quite as good as I thought I would.  I've had a lot of swelling and discomfort.  I've mostly popped Percocet and dozed on the couch with the kitties.

I did however get some work done on my Civil War Sampler BOW.  I'm two blocks away from being caught up on this one!  Woo Hoo!  But just this one ... sadly.  Here's my progress on this one:
Block 11 -- Blockade

Block 12 -- Louisiana
Block 13 -- London Square
Block 14 -- Rosebud
Block 15 -- Apple Tree
Block 16 -- Tennessee
Block 17 -- Calico Puzzle
Block 18 --Tea Leaf

Pretty good progress considering.  And let's not forget my helper today, Nala:
I've still got a couple more days before I go back to reality.  Maybe I can get a few more things done or maybe I'll just keep taking Percocet induced naps!

Weekend Wrap Up

I got a little sewing in over the weekend finally.  Friday I finished all of my Block Xs for my Lazy Sunday quilt:
Block X

I only had to rip a few.  I hate ripping!  I really like these blocks.  I'm anxious to see how it all comes together!

Then Saturday I made a couple more blocks for the Modern HST Quilt-a-Long.  Blocks 26 & 27:
Block 26
Block 27
And then I made a couple blocks for the Civil War Sampler BOW.  These are blocks 9 & 10:
Block 9 - Peace and Plenty
Block 10 - Yankee Puzzle
Finally, on Sunday, I drug out my Vintage Kansas City Star BOM and put together blocks 7 through 9:
Block 7 - The Album
Block 8 - I X L or I Excel
Block 9 - Jackson's Star
I'm anxious to finish the Kansas City Star quilt.  I had forgotten how much I like it!  That's what happens when you walk away from stuff for months!

All in all it was a pretty productive weekend.  Next weekend is the International Quilt Show in Cincinnati.  I'm not taking any classes this year.  We are just going to go for a day and call it good.  I'm looking forward to browsing the booths!!

Weekend Wrap Up

I didn't get much sewing done this weekend.  It seems like it just flew by!

Friday:

I got my centers done for my Lucky Stars quilt.  If you recall I had mentioned that I couldn't stand using a plain square in the middle and had decided to string piece them.  It got worse from there .... then I couldn't decide on one style ... so now I have 3!

Lucky Stars Centers
Then I did this week's Modern Half Square Triangle Quilt-a-Long block:

Block 25 -- I think

Saturday:

We attended the funeral of our good friend's family member.  It was very sad and I just wasn't in the mood to sew when we got home.  Very sad.

Sunday:

Today I finished up the next two blocks for the Civil War BOW.  I'm all caught up with that now until Primitive Gatherings ships the next 4 weeks worth.

Block 7 -- Strength in Union
Block 8 -- Fox and Geese
The rest of the day was spent on errands, cleaning and laundry ... YUCK!!  This evening though I started gathering all of my things for Quilt-cation .... my name for Retreat at Jackson's Mill!  I cleaned my Husqvarna machine and changed the needle while my Hubby did some maintenance on my baby, Plum Crazy:

She's all ready to go for this weekend now!  And I can't wait!! Quilt-cation here I come!!

Better Late Than Never .... Weekend Wrap Up

It doesn't seem like I got much accomplished sewing wise this past weekend but it was jam packed full of stuff.

Friday:

I got caught up with the Modern Half Square Triangle Quilt-a-Long.  Go me!!  Here are blocks 21 through 24:

Block 21
Block 22
Block 23
Block 24
I'm excited to be caught up with this.  Now I've only got one block a week to do!

I also got two more of my Civil War Sampler BOW blocks done:

Block 5 -- Hovering Hawks
Block 6 -- Port and  Starboard
I'm really enjoying this quilt and the variety of fabrics they are sending.  I can't wait to finish this next year!

Saturday:

Saturday was my Shadowbox class at Quilts by Phyllis.  I had a wonderful time sewing and talking with all the ladies in my class.  I'm about 90% done.  I had great intentions of finishing the quilt Saturday evening, but we had a bit of a mishap involving one spotted Bengal cat and a tray of terracotta paint.  Needless to say most of my evening was spent cleaning up the cat and the house!  I failed to take any pictures of the work in progress or the "cat-astrophe".... I find I'm a slacker with the camera when I'm in a class.

Sunday:

I wasn't' feeling all that great so I spent a little time sorting through some of my scraps .... I plan on starting a scrappy Irish Chain as a leaders and enders project.  I'd like to have enough 2" squares to take with me to Jackson's Mill the weekend after next to use as leaders and enders.  I may have enough at this point.  I'll probably just pack up what I have and make do.  I also made a few different string centers for my Lucky Stars quilt.  I decided to do different ones since I couldn't decide which I liked best!  Hopefully I'll be able to get those done and the Shadowbox quilt on Friday.

Have a good week y'all!

President's Day Weekend Wrap Up

I love, love, love these extended weekends.  I've had time to do all kinds of things plus sew! Tomorrow back to reality though.

There was no sewing on Saturday.  Saturday was car shopping day.  I placed an order for a 2013 Plum Crazy Challenger to match my machine and my tattoo of course!  And in honor of buying a purple car, I give you my purple dog:

Mercedes had fun at the groomer.  It was supposed to be streaked, but apparently she isn't frou frou like her sister, Harley.  She DID NOT like the foils in her hair!  I think it's cute though.

Sunday I started getting ready for Jackson's Mill Quilt Retreat.  It's coming up fast!!  Nala assisted by inspecting my ironed fat quarters:

I got all of my fabric cut for both of the classes I signed up for.  Here's my Lucky Stars fabric:

It doesn't look like much ..... but it was 40 fat quarters. All I have left to do is string piece the twenty 4.5" center squares because I'm crazy that way.  I just didn't like them plain.  I also signed up for an Iron Caddy class.  It's just an afternoon class, but I already had the fabric and pattern sitting in the drawer so I figured it was a good opportunity to use it!

And just for good measure I made Block 2 for the Civil War Sampler:

Block 2 -- Star of the West

Today was cleaning day, but I still got some sewing time in!  Here are my Unit 3s for Lazy Sunday:

And my Unit 4s:

And my Unit 5s:

I also got two more Civil War Sampler blocks done:

Block 3 -- Barbara Frietchie Star
Block 4 -- Catch Me If You Can
And last but not least, one more block for the Modern HST Quilt-a-Long:

Block 20 (?)
Oh and I got the binding sewn on one of the baby blankets so I could take it with me this week to stitch on while I'm in the car for work.

Next weekend I have that Shadowbox quilt class.  The instructor called tonight and gave more directions of things to have done.  Kind of short notice for me.  Had I known earlier today I could have done it, but now it may not happen before class.  I'm kind of wondering why she didn't call us on Friday or Saturday so those of us that work could have an opportunity to get it done.  It will all work out though.  It's an easy pattern.  I'm just taking the class so I can sit and sew with other quilters.  I love the company.

Friday Finishes

Spinning Stars Table Topper:

And I dropped it off at the long armer this afternoon since I left my rotary cutter there and needed to pick it up today.

Modern Half Square Triangle Quilt-a-Long:

Block 19
A new project:

Block 1 -- White House
Plus I cut the quilt for my Shadowbox class next weekend ... after I picked up my rotary cutter of course. I've got a busy weekend ahead, but I plan to get in some more sewing time!
